There is a hunger problem in Berkeley and Albany. Pre-pandemic, it was estimated that 24,000 individuals were food insecure, or 1 in 4, in Berkeley. We believe the best way to relieve hunger and fight food insecurity is to design services around the community member experience — enhancing convenient, non-stigmatizing access to healthy, high-quality food at no cost to the recipients. Through our combination of direct service programs and strategic partnerships that bolster the local food security network, we serve over 6,000 people weekly in neighboring communities across northern Alameda County.
