Operations Coordinator–Sourcing & Receiving

The Operations Coordinator --Sourcing & Receiving will play a critical role in ensuring BFN can source enough food for our community. This role works closely with the Operations & Procurement Manager to receive food into the warehouse, manage existing sourcing relationships, and order and identify new sources of food for Berkeley Food Network. 

Hours: Part-time 20 hours/week. Non-Exempt/Hourly.
Schedule: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-12:30pm, possibly additional hours as scheduled with Supervisor.
Location: Onsite at our West Berkeley warehouse. No remote work availability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Receiving 50%
-Interact daily with multiple vendors and delivery partners to receive and process deliveries.
-Assist with coordination of pick-up and receiving of donated and recovered food.
-Maintain best practices for food handling to prevent spoilage, infestation, and cross-contamination.
-Work with inventory management software, Primarius, and order scheduling software, Airtable, to support order receipt.

Sourcing 25%
-Coordinates with Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) to order appropriate quantities of food for all BFN programs.
-Orders supplies for BFN warehouse and all programs.
-Supports Operations and Procurement Manager in sourcing efforts including food recovery and food donor outreach.

Warehouse Operations 20%
-Maintain safe and clean facilities and work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat; maintain clean shipping supply area; and participate in daily cleaning processes.
-Oversees warehouse tasks such as checking refrigerators and freezer temperatures and coordination of trash, recycling, and compost removal.
-Coordinates ongoing BFN vehicle cleaning and maintenance as needed.

Logistics Support 5%
-Assist with preparing partner orders by processing requests, pulling materials, packing boxes, and loading orders in the distribution area and/or organization vehicles.
-Assist with guiding and instructing volunteers in their warehouse duties and ensuring they observe safety rules and good food handling practices. This includes answering volunteer questions about processes and receiving and reporting volunteer feedback.
-Deliver food to Mobile Pantry sites and Distribution Partners using BFN vans when needed.
-Support the 9th Street Pantry, BFN's largest distribution, as needed.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities.

Required Qualifications
-Ability to prioritize tasks and flexibility to reassess based on changing circumstances.
-Communication and people skills to successfully interact with a variety of community members.
-Basic computer skills and using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
-Experience working in a warehouse, food service, or similar environment.
-Willingness to learn forklift and pallet jack operation.
-Must have a valid California driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
-Food Justice or Community Service desired.
-Experience and comfort operating a forklift and/or pallet jack.
-Knowledge of food recovery guidelines.
-Knowledge of food production and agricultural landscape in Northern California.

Physical Requirements
This position is primarily located in a warehouse environment. Candidate must be able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

-Ability to exert force and/or lift or carry items weighing 50 to 75 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently.
-Ability to walk, sit, squat, bend, twist, reach above and below shoulder height, push, pull, lift, and carry frequently.
-Ability to work inside freezers and coolers frequently.
-Ability to work in an occasionally loud warehouse environment.
-Ability to handle compost and trash receptacles.
Compensation & Benefits
The compensation for this position is $27/hour. The benefits for part-time employees at BFN are as follows:

-Twenty-one (21) paid holidays, including the end-of-year closure between December 23 – January 1 annually, plus an extra day on your birthday.
-Accrued paid leaves including up to ten (10) vacation days and up to 80 paid sick leave hours in your first year, depending on number of hours worked.
-Elective participation in 403(b) Retirement Plan
